A close-knit community near downtown Pittsburgh
The sense of community is strong in East Carnegie, a quiet residential neighborhood in Pittsburgh’s west end. “Residents really do take care of each other,” says Council Woman Theresa Kail-Smith, who has represented the district since 2009. ‘The community views itself as a family.” Numerous events, such as the Carnegie Crawl, are hosted year-round and bring residents together while supporting local businesses. Main Street is lined with shops and restaurants that are neighborhood favorites, while the vibrant commercial areas of downtown Pittsburgh are just 6 miles away. “There is lots of entertainment in and around the neighborhood,” Kail-Smith says. “There’s never an absence of anything to do.”
American Foursquare and Craftsman-style homes
Residences in East Carnegie are primarily single-family, with multiple housing styles tucked away in the famous rolling hills of Pittsburgh. American Foursquares and Craftsman-style dwellings are the most popular, but quaint bungalows can be found scattered throughout. Many houses have porches, which create an ideal spot to sit and relax during the summer months. East Carnegie’s streets are lined with trees and often have city-maintained staircases in the steeper regions of the neighborhood. Most residents own their homes, and prices tend to begin at $120,000, with newly remodeled houses selling for over $200,000. “It’s a great area for first-time homebuyers,” says Diane McConaghy, associate broker and Realtor on the Diane McConaghy Team at RE/MAX. “That type of housing is attractive, and it’s great for renters as well.”
Whether you’re buying, selling, or investing, the 15106 area—covering Carnegie, Scott Township, Greentree, Heidelberg, and more—continues to show strong demand and value.
