Crafton, PA – Community Spotlight

Crafton is a small suburb located just a few miles west of Downtown Pgh.  Even though this small borough is just a little over 1 square mile, it borders six other communities and has a population of a little under 6,000.

Crafton is a quaint tight knit community where you’ll find historic tree-lined streets, many Victorian homes, boutiques, a 10 acre park, public swimming pool, and they even have their own community farm.

There are also a few historic landmark streets in the Crafton borough where they are really focused on restoration and preservation of the homes in the area.
You can typically find around 5 homes on the market in Crafton at any given time with prices ranging from $89 – $320.  I’ve actually seen a home recently sell for $360k.  The average sales price over the last six months is slightly under $250k and the median rent for the area is about $800.   In terms of rentals versus home ownership, you’ll find that Crafton has a good blend of both.  It’s really almost a 50/50 split.

Crafton Park is one of the big attractions in the area with its ball fields, public pool, playground, an amphitheater which features a summer concert series each year and we can’t forget the bocce ball court.   Crafton also has three other smaller parks, Linwood Park and Noble Park which each have facilities for young children and a basketball court.

Clearview Park – which is a A wood chipped walking trail which runs parallel to Clearview Avenue from Clearview Extension to Crotzer Avenue .

There is plenty of shopping in the Crafton-Ingram Shopping Center with not only a grocery store and other specialty shops and restaurants, but also the Crafton Ingram Bowling Lanes and Wright’s Gym.  There are several charming small businesses and boutiques in the area that you have to stop in and check out.

All of the locals will tell you that the most popular restaurant in the area to get authentic Italian cuisine is Sarafino’s.  My favorite dish there is the angel hair pasta with Gorgonzola Cream Sauce.  Oh My gosh – I’m getting hungry just thinking about it.  And we certainly can’t forget about the Circle Inn, located just a few steps from the Circle.

In the winter expect to see tons of young kids riding their sleds down the steep hill from Crafton Blvd leading to Crafton park.

You’ll find a good blend of families of all ages, many people who were born and raised in the area and have never left.  This little town is very special to me as I was born in Crafton, and came back to live here as a young adult for many years.  And as with all communities in and around Pittsburgh, Craftonites love their black and gold, home of Former Steelers head coach Bill Cowher.  Bill was born and raised in Crafton and has a street named after him.

That just about wraps it up for Crafton.  If you’d like more information on the homes available for sale Crafton, contact us via our link.  And don’t forget to give us a Like and subscribe to our channel so that you can learn about other communities in and around the Pittsburgh area.
