Two towns full of history!Imperial and Oakdale are located in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, in the Southwestern suburbs of Pittsburgh
These two areas are geographically close to the Pittsburgh International Airport and border North Fayette, South Fayette, and Findlay Townships. The total area of both communities combined is a little under 5 square miles.Imperial and Oakdale History
Farming and Mining used to run these areas. Imperial was established as a mining town in the 1800’s by the Imperial Coal Company and sits along Montour Run on land that had been a farm. The historic town of Oakdale offers a taste of the Old West. Robinson Run, a tributary to Chartiers Creek, flows through the southeastern part of the borough.Area attractions
Imperial and Oakdale are quiet areas with plenty of small family owned businesses, restaurants, boutiques, and personal services. Imperial is home to Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway with dirt track racing every Saturday night from May through October. And, there’s plenty of camping around the track. When travelling through Oakdale, make sure to stop at The Diner, or Sil’s for great food and friendly conversation. Also, make sure to check out Helicon Brewing. It’s a 15 barrel brewery with taproom seating and features a multitude of beers. Want time to relax? Be sure to save a day to wander through the Pittsburgh Botanical Gardens. In addition to being inspired as you journey through the park, this is a popular location for weddings, showers, corporate events, photography sessions, and special events.
